RUN'S Here
are the answers to the TOP 10 most frequently asked
questions we get from fans and clients alike. All of the
answers here may be found on this web site, as well as
plastered all over PAPA's promo material. #10 A: We don't have
"day jobs"...playing in this band is all we do,
it's how we earn a living... #9 A:
In recent years, PAPA has released numerous singles, an
EP, and NINE albums (CDs). We've earned 2 Gold
Records and a Grammy Nomination.
#8 A:
Throughout the 80's & 90's PAPA toured and recorded with members of the
Beach Boys. Bruce Johnston (a Beach Boy), produced our 1st major single
("Be True To Your School" - RCA). 5 of our 6 guys also played with
Mike Love's Endless Summer Beach Band throughout the 80's, and Mike is
also singing some background parts on our "California Project" CD.
One of our guys, Randell, was the bass player / vocalist in the
Beach Boys for 10 years, and has
also performed in Brian Wilson's band.
Another of our guys, Adrian, was the high voice and guitarist for the
Beach Boys for over 20 years!
PAPA is who the Beach Boys call when they need a "sub" in
their band. #7 A:
For the past 4 decades we've averaged over 100 dates a year.
In a typical year we will cover 15 states and 5
countries, 75% of our gigs are outside of California. #6 A:
The band started in northern California in 1965, but since then we've
all pretty much found our own special niche. Donnie still
lives in
N. Cal in the Silicon Valley, Jimi lives in Huntington Beach, Bo lives
in Santa Barbara, Bobby G
lives out near Riverside, Jeffrey lives in Palm Springs, and Adrian lives in Reno. Our truck,
equipment, warehouse, and roadies all live in Orange Co., near Disneyland. We
would go nuts if we all had to live together, to say nothing of our
wives and children.
#5 A: In California, Arizona, and Nevada, (when routing permits)
PAPA will provide all their own sound, lights and band gear (all 4 tons
of it). Elsewhere we bring 5-6 guitar flight cases on the
plane and the client must rent gear locally. #4 A:
Additional sets and overtime are usually prorated. At
nearly all of our gigs, the audience is having so
much fun that they would have us play all night long if
they could, but chances are, we have a plane to
catch in the morning and another gig the next night.
We're happy to do an encore or 2 but anything over an
additional 10 minutes becomes an extra set.
#3 A: Besides BEACH PARTY music, we do a thing called our CLASSIC
ROCK SHOW, which covers all the non-beach rock and roll of the 60's and
70's. plus we do a few original songs with the same 60's/70's pop
flavor. We can do a whole night and never do a single Beach Boys'
tune, or do a whole night with nothing but beach tunes. Listen to one of
our LIVE CDs or look at our song
list! #2 A:
Haven't you been listening? We just played songs by the Doobies, Grand
Funk Railroad, ZZ Top, and a
Stones medley. And the #1
most FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION... #1 A:
YES! There's
another question that comes up from time to time, and
that is... "How do
I go about booking the band for a date?" PAPA occasionally gets booked directly by our clients, but
more frequently, we are booked thru a booking agent or
meeting planner. If you work for a company with
an "in-house" meeting/event planning person, or
have a favorite booking agent or party planner please
give them the following information: PAPA's MAILING ADDRESS: PAPA
